About

The Southern Scooter Challenge: A Legacy of Passion and Community The momentum behind the Southern Scooter Challenge began with PlaceMakers Invercargill’s former branch manager, Alister Rance, whose vision and enthusiasm laid the foundation for what the event is today. With strong support from previous Hub Manager Ron Jeffcoat and continued commitment from current Hub Manager Michael Archer, PlaceMakers has proudly carried the torch—ensuring this iconic event not only continues but thrives.

The idea came from the TV coverage of the second Tranz Apine Scooter Safari, a mass scooter ride from Christchurch to the West Coast that raised more than a hundred thousand dollars for charity.

Right away the commitment was to bring the ride to the Southern roads, so contacted the Tranz Alpine Scooter Safari creators for their approval and assistance. So, with that, the Southern Scooter challenge was born back in 2010!

Please join with us in this incredibly worthwhile cause.
